Attorney Ronnie Lane of Monroe, GA; greedy loser

The state of Georgia presented Ronnie Joe Lane with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from the University of Georgia Law School. 

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Everett guilty of the following misconduct.

After retiring and collecting a state pension of $84,000 a year, Ronnie was appointed to be the director of the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission.

To assure that he was eligible to collect his judicial pension, Ronnie was limited under Georgia law to working a maximum of 20 hours per week.

To get around the law, Ronnie billed the Judicial Commission $120 per hour for 20 hours of work per week despite the fact that he was working 40 hours per week. In a lame effort at levity, Ronnie had the chutzpah to state he donated the extra 20 hours per week to the state.

Not satisfied with ripping off the taxpayers so as to continue to collect his undeserved $84,000 pension, Ronnie improperly billed the state for over $7,000 in travel expenses for the first nine months he worked for the Judicial Commission. These expenses included Ronnie billing for 520 mile round-trips from his Donaldson home to the Commission’s office in Monroe.

A spokesman for the Commission said if Ronnie billed the Commission to commute “just to get to the office,” that he didn’t believe it was an appropriate expense. In addition, under IRS rules, Ronnie was required to report the money he received for commuting purposes as income on his federal and state tax returns.

After being outed by the media, Ronnie took the cowards way out and resigned his position with the Judicial Commission.
