Judge Johnny Hartzog of Prentiss, MS; ethical gremlin

The Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance found Johnny guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Improperly imposed contempt sanctions
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to timely recuse himself in eviction case when it was obvious he had a conflict of interest
  • Engaged in willful misconduct
  • Misconduct brought judicial office into disrepute
  • Wrote three checks on insufficient fund account (rubber) on same day

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Mississippi Supreme Court punished Johnny by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

Because Attorney Misfits in Mississippi are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Johnny was never criminally charged with writing bad checks.

As we speak (ca. May 2015), Johnny continues to sit as a Jefferson Davis County Justice Court Judge in Prentiss, Mississippi.
