Attorney William Yarbrough III of Greenville, SC; convicted thief 

The State of South Carolina presented William G. Yarbrough III with a law license in 2013 after he graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School.

Disciplinary Counsel of the South Carolina Supreme Court found Billy guilty of the following misconduct.

• Convicted of a serious crime
• Engaged in conduct tending to pollute the administration of justice
• Violate his oath of office
• Failed to safeguard client property
• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonest or misrepresentation
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

In one matter, Billy Respondent was holding $150,000 in criminal forfeiture funds in an escrow account for payment to the United States Government. Billy purchased shares of stock "on the margin" for his personal use.

The purchased stock declined in value and respondent was required to make payment on a margin call in the amount of $122,170.

Billy paid the margin call with funds out of the escrow account. When required to make payment of the $150,000 to the United States Government, respondent began a scheme of check kiting. Subsequently, Billy pled guilty to one count of bank fraud.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme punished Billy by disbarring him. However, several years later the comedians on the Supreme Court had the chutzpah to reinstate Billy the Thief’s law license.
