Attorney K. Douglas Thornton of Conway, SC; repeat offender

 

The State of South Carolina presented K. Douglas Thornton with a law license in 1983 after he graduated from the University of South Carolina.

 

Disciplinary Counsel of the South Carolina Supreme Court found Thornton guilty of the following misconduct.

 

Thornton’s 1stbite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree  

 

In one matter, Thornton pled guilty to an indictment charging him with willful failure to make and file a South Carolina Income Tax Return

 

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme punished Thornton by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

  • Failed to provide competent representation (Moron)
  • Failed to abide by client’s decisions concerning objectives of representation
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to keep client informed about status of legal matter
  • Failed to explain matter to extent necessary to permit client to make informed decisions regarding the representation
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonest or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Entered into business transaction with client on terms that weren’t fair and reasonable
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Thornton!)

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme punished Thornton by gifting him with a complimentary 9-month suspension of his law license.

 

As we speak (ca. April 2015), Thornton practices at 1025 Third Avenue in Conway, South Carolina.
